The workshop takes place on September 24–25 and focuses on narratives of pain, disasters, diseases and displacements. The aim of the workshop is to expand our common knowledge, theories and methodologies of narratives in relation to difficult and painful areas of life and sociality.

Three distinguished experts have been invited to discuss painful narratives:

Carl Lindahl (professor in folkloristics at the University of Houston, Texas), Diane Goldstein (professor in folkloristics at the Indiana University), and Kyrre Kverndokk (professor in Cultural History at the University of Bergen).

The workshop is organized by the Department of Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology, UU, in collaboration with Engaging Vulnerability and Uppsala Forum for Democracy, Peace and Justice.
